SECO is supporting circular economy approach

With the support of SECO, SAU initiates circular economy approcach for Usquare.Brussels Site

SECO Belgium offers technical support to the Urban Development Corporation of the Brussels-Capital Region (SAU-MSI)  in their search for a circular economy approach for the Usquare.brussels site.

SAU has appointed the consortium ROTOR - SECO - 3DCM Consult to assist it in setting up a circular economy approach for various demolition, construction and conversion operations on the site of the former Fritz Toussaint barracks at the corner of Boulevard Général Jacques and Avenue de la Couronne in Ixelles (the Usquare.brussels project).

The SAU launched the tender process in December 2019, assisted by a ULB-VUB research team and chose this consortium out of the seven received  proposals.

In the four-year framework agreement, SECO will, as a part of the consortium, provide high level technical support consisting of:

  • A proactive supervision of the process of drawing up of the inventories of materials for the various buildings on the site and for the public space, supplemented by its vast technical expertise of the construction industry, resulting in an optimised process;
  • Technical support in the development of a reuse strategy for the Usquare.brussels project by elaborating on and comparing the different strategies at different levels (city, site, building, product, material) in order to retain their technical quality;
  • Providing guidance and a technical framework to SAU and their partners to resolve the technical issues related to the operational implementation and monitoring of the reuse strategy across the Usquare.brussels project.
