Northwind - Offshore Wind Farm
The Northwind project is an offshore wind farm of 216MW, on the Lodewijk Bank in the Belgian Exclusive Economic Zone of the North Sea, about 37km away from the coast.
The wind farm consists of 72 monopile foundations, topped by a grouted transition piece. A 73rd piled foundation will be added for an offshore high voltage station.
SECO’s assignment consisted in a technical scan of the foundation works as well as fabrication quality control that includes:
- Independent review for the account of GEOSEA/DEME of the design documentation. The focus is on the civil engineering aspects of the project and the associated risk of inherent defects (stability and durability).
- Fabrication control of primary and secondary steel included workshop visits in Belgium, Netherlands, Spain and Germany.
