Project

The ‘Route de Tamarins’ has been built to relieve overstretched infrastructure in built-up areas, provide better operating conditions for the public transport system and improve access to the west of the island. There are four large viaducts/bridges along the route; one of them is the Viaduct 'Grande Ravine'.
The structure is 288m long and 20m wide and spans the valley at a height of 170m. The infrastructure consists in 2 abutments, each supporting a buttress 50m in length and constructed by successive projection in prestressed concrete. The steel deck structure (3.560t) has been placed in its final position by pushing from the abutments and is welded in the middle.

Assignment

SECO’s assignment consisted in the technical inspection (design and execution) in both the temporary and the final phases. Particular attention was given to the behaviour under extreme windloads (cyclons).
